Here at the Mt. Top we are a bunch of cheap F**ks as everyone knows. We try to make do with what we can find, alter, hack, steal or just plain repurpose.
The acquisition team has acquired a vertical shaft engine with electric start for the next Naughtagator upgrade.
As you all know since the advent of electric starters it was necessary to have starter relays as to avoid sending high current through the ignition switch/starter switch. The old standby has been the Ford starter relay. That handy device has been around for eons.
Sadly our "parts department" has informed me that the Ford relays are on backorder. The Acquisition team has been sent out nightly in search of vehicles parked on the street that might be a source of the desired relay.
Not having much luck and with a deadline approaching We began looking for alternatives. We have found a GM starter solenoid. The problem then became how do ya make a solenoid act as a switch when it does not have the bendix apparatus to operate?
The Skunkworks division came up with a solution:
The GM solenoid

Turn a 1.25 inch slug

put the slug inside the solenoid.

Hook up some scary unfused wires and a test light.

"push" the starter switch

So another cheap azz solution to a supply chain issue.
Just need to cut an aluminum "cap" to keep the slug where it needs to be.
