My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Such a horrible tragedy.
This is a good time to go out and check the the throttle returns on all your toys! That's the very reason my daughters kart has been on blocks. The last time we rode it,the throttle kept getting hung up, but I can't figure out why. So it sits.....

No, it was a coned off circuit for a sanctioned event in the parking lot. She was an experienced driver and her father was president of their organization.

She went off course and hit the cable. I assume marking parking lot boundaries.
Only thing I don't understand is why she didn't hit the ignition kill switch?

We can speculate all day.....but either she panicked. ...or .... ( more likely. ...) her attention was focused on the kart.....possibly looking at that cable...and didn't realize she was drifting off course. .....until it was too late.....at least in this case. ...we can rule out texting.....about as stupid a way to die that I know of.....

A slightly different tangent. ...but this reminded me of something that happened many years ago out towards Flower Mound.....

I had pulled into a convience store in one of those "mini mall strip places" off 377 N......I couldn't tell you exactly where....but I'm pretty sure it was Keller.....and near the northern boundary. .....

Anyway. ..just as I get out of my car....I hear brakes squealing and a thud....I turn around and see this kid tumbling down the southbound lane near the centerstripe.....to describe it. ...it looked just like the vid of Evil Knievel's failed Ceasars Palace fountain jump....shown in slow motion. ....the sound was like someone alternatively slapping a leather couch and a watermelon. ....

So this kid immediately tries to stand up and get his 4 wheeler and falls down. ...He was sideswiped and had a broken ankle....he is lamenting. ...."Oh man....my 4 wheeler. ...he's actually back up ....and standing on one foot...the other barely touching. ....The driver says: "Forget about your 4 wheeler....sit down. ..you're hurt.."

So I'm looking at this kid....and thinking. ...dang....he doesn't look bad for what he's been through. ... (but this was within seconds of impact).....As I'm looking at him. ...blood begins flowing from EVERYWHERE. ...it looks like he's sweating blood......especially his face. ... (which could have been prevented with a helmet)..... and everyone realizes this kid is hurt pretty bad so we get him on the ground and under a blanket before he goes in shock.....

He was really lucky.....But although this girl wasn't. ..these are the kind of things that help reinforce our "you're going to kill yourself" statements. ....and why we make them. ....and why we take saftey so seriously. ....

So......this is for the new members. ...that think we are overcautious...maybe so.....but...live are die....prevention is the best path.....

A person at my high school was killed from hitting a cable in a parking lot. He was riding someone elses' kart, didn't get much instruction, and it was getting dark. Basically, a bunch of bad decisions. Be safe out there folks, safety is #1. I hate hearing things like this.

First of all my sympathy to the whole family and friends. That is not something you want to witness.

We all know it can be dangerous so lets be careful and just have fun doing it.

Helmets and the hole 9 cant save everyone..

But it saves alot of us idiotss..

Safety is key.
