you should be ok but your exelleration is going to be slowish. if my memory serves you should have a top speed of about 30-35mph

more like 39 mph. if you or the kart are moderately heavy - your acceleration will suck chicken balls. that's the exact setup i have on my little kart, and with my fat a$$ on it it takes a while to get moving! jackshaft time!

a jack shaft would lower your top speed but it would be an improvement I would make

a jackshaft is one of life's great mysteries, one that the gurus tend to forget to describe in detail to the new guys who can't take the time to google it or search for it on the forum. jeez. lol.
a jackshaft is simply a mini axle with sprockets and often the driven pulley from a torque converter setup. the jackshaft on my large kart serves 2 purposes: gear reduction (a small sprocket feeding the rear axle sprocket, and a slightly larger sprocket fed by my driven pulley's sprocket), and also serving the purpose of allowing me to keep my motor centered in the rear of the kart, while transfering the torque of the chain to the rear axle sprocket located closer to the bearing - so the axle doesn't bend from the torque of the motor pulling on the chain.
a jackshaft is a cost effective and time saving way to gear your kart down for more torque (or up for more speed).
Tip of the day: you never want to put your sprocket in the middle of the axle! always put the sprocket near a bearing - so the axle doesn't bend when you punch the gas or climb a hill.

you will be able to climb hills and your exelleration will also be improved. all a jack shaft does is allow you to change your gear ratio. if all you want to do is see how fast you can go keep a 5:1 or 4.5:1 but you will have to be very carefull you don't burn up your clutch and it will take forever to get to your top speed. having a 6:1 or 7:1 (recomended) will give you low end torque and you will get that feeling of being pushed into your seat more so than with the lower ratio.

Simple answer- no.
What engine and chain size? Either a jackshaft, smaller primary sprocket or larger secondary sprocket is required.

ideal jackshaft i think would be a 13t sprocket and a 17t sprocket. that should give you some nice torque!
run the clutch to the 17t sprocket, then the 13t sprocket to your axle sprocket.
run the clutch to the 17t sprocket, then the 13t sprocket to your axle sprocket.

if you can get a 72t sprocket, do it. then you prolly won't need a jackshaft.

depends on your kart, which you haven't posted pics of yet, and how much you weigh.
the jackshaft would be better than a 72t sprocket for torque, but a 72t sprocket might be all you need.
