Maybe so, but im going to try using the skid first. :D

Sled is a 94, but most of the parts interchange till 99 iirc. I bought it figuring i could break even at least with keeping the parts I wanted. Hopefully thats the case! It has electrical issues, otherwise I would have kept it if I could get it running. Needs a stator or CDI or both... I have a guy coming for the seat and bars tonight. Once I have it broken down a bit more it will be easier to list the parts FS. Im hoping that I can get them gone pretty quick, eats some serious garage space!

Chrome browser will translate the Russian, most of the way anyway...

Does Chrome work with Mac? I know it is a Google program.

OK another question for you guys. I need opinions. Keep the stock chaincase with 2:1 gearing or ditch it?

If i keep it, it has the brake mounted to it, so I can reuse that, but it sits right at the front of the track, which adds just a little bit of a nose to the front (and more weight on the front) But could allow me to use the honda gearbox with another 2:1 between the two giving me 8:1 overall.

/rant on, I was going to buy a gx160 and gearbox for $25!! As im about the leave the house the guy calls and said he sold it already. After i told him repeatedly I would buy it.... /rant off

Teardown. Anyone want a good Rotax 583 block? Needs a stator and recoil.

Front edge of the track is just behind the jackshaft you can see there.

The snowmobile jackshaft and chaincase looks like it would be to far forward and to low. Plus its designed to have the secondary clutch mounted outboard of the tunnel. Atleast your making head way. You should be able to get $150 or so for that engine.

Took some better non blurry pics. The very front edge of the track is at the vertical piece in front of the jackshaft. I dont know that its ideal, but it has gears, and a brake built in already! The track is still below the bottom of the lip that the jackshaft is on, but not a ton. I do think it would be better to have the weight further back.

I am asking $150 for the engine, no takers yet. The recoil is broken, and I think the ignition stator is toast, had really weak erratic spark. Good compression though, so im hoping someone will want the block.

More pics:

Im really done with this thing puking fluids onto my garage floor though... Ill get more done tonight, wife is out of town.

Im thinking of cutting the front of the snowmobile off right at that vertical edge in front of the jackshaft. Just need to finish pulling the parts I can try to sell.

EDIT:

Front edge of track is about at this line. Gearing suggestions? Thinking of 8:1

Maybe this should become a build thread.

Anyway, more pics from last night. 17 million rivets drilled out later, belly pan and foot rests are off.

Pile o parts. Need to sell....

Couldn't resist putting the engine on there.

Here is how far the chaincase sticks out. its 7" from the side of the track tunnel. I may keep it, still not sure, I just hate to throw away a perfectly good jackshaft brake and reduction assembly!

Front of the track is at the black vertical line, proposed cut line is the orange, I think I need to keep a bit of the structure there if I keep the JS and chaincase.

Well go ahead and cut it! LOL I'm interested to see how it will work.
