You don't need this in order to get the engine working, they're just there to let you know in what gear you are.

You can leave them alone and the engine will work as good without it.

What type of brand is this engine?

I have a Zongshen 150cc too! Cool ;)

You could wire them up so you can get a gear display. I was thinking about 6 lights. For every gear one, including neutral. You'll just have to figure out which cable is for which gear.

Mines are hooked up to some digital display, but apperently my display isn't working anymore. I'll try to do the way with those LEDS. ;) Maybe it'll work.

Could you please repeat what you said? I didn't really understand it, sorry.

Neither did I

Alex, are you absolutely sure it's not needed? It could be part of the starting system, ie: some sort of cut out sensor to prevent the starter engaging while the engine is in gear

if its there it would hurt to connect it

some engines run completely differant in diferant gears like limiting the revs in neutral and retarding the timeing in the first few gears to control power
but i dout this engine is that complex

Did you get the starter motor working?

Not yet.

Ok, guys, let's think about this first. These 6 cables are for indicting in which you're in. They just give a small signal. They are in no way connected to anythign else electrical.

You may be right, Fowler, but these systems are not made in the motor itself. It's a digital thing that gives the information to the CDI.

Well, if you just connect the other cables that are coming from the stator, to the CDI and rectifier, I don't see anything that could prevent the engine from starting without those gears sensor cables attached.
Things chance when everything is being controlled electronically. That controller sees in what gear you're in and enable/disable electric starter and could also reduce rpm or power in the first few gears.

That's how I think about this.
