Last burning question: Are band brakes good enough for this kind of setup? I'm seeing reports of failure on the mechanical disc setup, and I don't have the cash for a hydraulic brake system. A 5" band looks like it would be good enough, but I want to hear the crowds consensus.

One of mine has band brakes. 4" I think. It will lock up the rear axle with a decent amount of pressure. MUCH stronger than the one I have that has a mechanical disc. As with any mechanical brake, the harder you push, the faster you stop.

Properly set up band brakes work great.

Thanks! Now I need to finish shopping and get cutting. So many kart supply stores to choose from. I think I'll end up purchasing from Go Power Sports or Go Kart Supply. Preferably the latter, but I think it may be the former. They surprisingly have the better deal for this setup.

I appreciate all the help from everyone. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.
