would it be posible for a jc to work like this: first i put a drive gear on the engine(not a clutch)to the jc and then on the other end of the jc put the clutch?

jack converter?
i think he means jackshaft.

so you mean the clutch is from the jackshaft output and rear sprocket? well, doing this would cause it to engage because it may be running at a higher rpm, and if its lowered then it may not engage at all. clutches are designed to be on the engine, and engage at the powerstroke of the engine.

finding the right clutch springs may be a hassle so why not have it on the engine?

It would never reach the rpms needed to engage if you made a reduction between the motor and JS.

you would need a 1 to 1 ratio between engine and js, then a huge sprocket on the axle, or a SECOND js. also if your doing this to get away with a 3/4" bore clutch, there is a reason why the engine is 1" bore, also i would bet a 1" clutch has more gripping power. expensive 1" clutch + one js would also be expensive. tc would cost a bit more, but would have 10x better performance.

ok i got almost enogh parts to put together a jackshaft so thats what im doing.. so we know that the teeth on my clutch are going to 10 and then im going to put a 20 tooth gear on the jack shaft coming from the engine and then on the other side of the js im going to put a 14tooth gear go ing to the axle sproket witch is 54 teeth.. Will This work or can you give me suggestions?

more torque, less speed, 14t will be about a 8 to 1, 10t will be a 10.8 to 1, i said that because thats pretty much what russ suggested

well with russ's ratio you'l be going about 18 mph, with the 14t about 24mph, both of which with ok torque. but the 10t provides more torque.

The top speed isn't pretty with big tires and a centrifugal clutch. TC's and motors with gearboxes shine. Look around I got a Comet TC that needed a good, through cleaning and a belt and now it works. All in all, about $55. And that was with the backplate and jack shaft assembly in it.
