Been a bit of a looker for a while, but have decided to introduce myself.

My background in in motorsport as a hobby and as part of my role as a teacher I run a team of students in a 24 hour event. We build our own vehicle for this, which is a hybrid pedal/petrol powered kart. We are currently allowed to use 3 litres of fuel to cover the 24 hours.....

We are going to have to make a few changes this year or next so regarding the type of fuel we have to use, so I hope to be able to pick your brains.

Your at the right place. Some smart cookies in this site. Start a build thread and I am sure you will get plenty of help.

Tell us more about the rules and what you are able to use?

Cheers guys. We are running a little 35cc Honda with a friction drive to "assist" the kart - if you call a 3 wheeled recumbent a kart.......

There are no rules apart from being a school and having basic safety stuff - roll cages, seat belts, lighting etc, and we have to use commercially available fuels. We are given 3 litres at the start of the event and once it is gone it is gone. Engine type and size are not restricted, some are 100cc plus.

Last year we won our class, covering 795km in the 24 hours. We still finished with a litre of fuel left in the tank too.....

More details of the event can be found at http://racvenergybreakthrough.net

Wont be doing much to the existing kart for this years event. Just fine tuning a few things, preventative maintanence etc.

Another teacher and myself are looking into building a kart to suit a new class that has been introduced. In the past we had to have two power sources, but from this year we can build a kart with only one power source.

Wonder if two GX35s linked together through an electric clutch - so one can be shut down to save fuel - would be classed as one power source??????
