Probably bad and/or stuck needle/float.
Carefully disassemble carb and inspect needle and float.
Needle should be free to move in and out (up and down) along with float. Sometimes needle has a viton rubber tip that deteriorates due to alcohol present in gasoline.
Check that float actually floats in a cup of gasoline. Should not sink even over a long period of time.
Best bet would be a carb rebuild kit along with a new float.
Protect engine and carb by placing a shutoff valve between tank and carb.
Tank and carb should be run dry when not in use for long periods.

You left it full of gas and the carb had a float or needle failure, the thin gas seeps though oil seals into the crank. All separate tank stuff should have a shutoff valve for this reason.
