You might consider using 3M brand, Bondo® Glazing & Spot Putty, instead of regular Bondo for those pits.

Most of the pitting is towards the rear of the kart, near where the motor mounts. Nothing major, but if I'm putting in the time to strip and paint the frame, I want it to be **** near perfect before I paint.

A few pictures of the pitting. Also, I found the serial number under a few layers of paint. Looks like a 1997 year maybe.

I thought it was going to be nasty rust pitting. That looks like rock dings from track use. IMO, body filler is just going to chip in those areas.

Yeah, most likely rocks and such. I just want a smooth finish and the primer and paint to actually stick to the bare metal.

I agree with 65Shelby, a few coats of a good primer & sanding should fill those pits in just fine.

So I finally had a little free time, finished prepping the frame, and started priming. I've been putting in a little time on cleaning and polishing most of the small parts as well. Getting a little anxious to get this kart together and ride this thing before the snow flies here in NJ. Here's a few pics. Thinking about a really bright neon color for paint, like orange or yellow or green.

4 karts isn't too many. Of course thats coming from someone with one runner, one that needs tires, two that need everything but the frame and steering system ,with the exception of a left tie rod, and a minibike.

That seems like a perfectly acceptable number of motorized fun mobiles to me! I just noticed you're in Weeki Wachee. My mother-in-law lives right near there in Spring Hill. Is there a good place to ride near there when I visit?

I personally would weld over the pitting after cleaning then clean it all back up or replace said tube.

Haven't been there my self but my dad used to ride at croom a lot (about 1/8" of their yearly renewal stickers on my 95 warrior). It's near where I-75 goes over Cortez blvd. You may need to register with them. I don't know if they allow go karts but I can't see any reason for them not to since they allow side by sides. However atv's and dirt bikes are welcome there.

Oh, Spark arrest mufflers are mandatory on all vehicles. And I believe that they have an atv rental service.

Never mind the pitting isn’t as bad as I thought it was. Shoulda looked at the pics closer. Like that said a nice filler primer should do the trick just fine.

I decided on a nice bright yellow paint job. Nothing too fancy, just a couple of rattle cans. Coming out pretty decent. A few more coats, and I should be able to start putting it back together.

Well, I finally finished building The Rocket Powered Banana. (Maybe I should call it Bumblebee??) Fixed the screeching pull start on the flathead by taking off the starter clutch and sanding and lubing the shaft and ball bearings. New racing oil and fuel, and she purrs like a kitten. Need to adjust the carb a little, so she doesn't stall out, but it runs 50+ easy.

Thanks, I got it with the kart, the guy had converted it to run methanol. It sounds good, runs great. I ran it using VP racing fuel I got from my buddy, he uses it in his large RC cars. Now I have to track down some actual methanol.

Yeah that came out nice. Maybe paint match the pull start cover while your there to the chassis yellow.
