I just got into a Tascam hand held recorder.
This is going to be what I use to make future mini bike travel videos.
The built in mics are pretty bad.

So I went into my Mic archive and selected 3 full size microphones to try.
There's a Radio shack sm56 type, an sm57, and an audix 56 type.
These are raw files. They haven't been processed yet at all.

Here's where you come in. Please listen to the file, and choose the mic you think sounds the best.
Please post what you listened to them with. Phone, computer, headphones, earbuds or nothing. You can post on the site, but preferably here.

Honestly all sounds the same. That second one probably the worse, i heard some distortion in your voice, but could be you got to close for a second. One may be superior, i think recording device may be your limiting factor in quality.

P.s. wife says I'm deff, so don't take my word on sound quality.

Hooked up my old Sennheisers,HD280. It appears that compression artifacts make it difficult to judge the subtle nuances of the different mics. Got FLAC?

Side note. I'm planning on doing some waveform analysis of engines in various states of tune. Why? Cuz that's what old geeks do.

Yes.
There's various wind screens out there, of which I own a few.
I think a separate mic is going to be easier to mount as well, but that challenge is next.
Many things can be cleaned up in a DAW, as long as the original signal is not distorted, such as the one that comes from the gopro KO.

I do enjoy this stuff.
