Pics came out alittle fuzzy. Ill mock everthing up and get some better light on it. None of the extra bracing is in as well as motor and seat mounts.

Better Pictures
Due to space restraints in the engine bay and the shifter being located on the rear left side of the engine case (right under the drive sprocket) I am turning the motor around 180* and making a reversing gear to get my drive direction correct.
The steering setup minus the rack and pinion. Made the universal out of a 1/2" drive impact socket.

That engine can't weigh NEAR enough to make a difference on the center of gravity... Not to mention, it looks like it's probably gonna be a heavier than average kart.
Have you ever picked up a 250 quad motor? (or been in a physics class for that matter?)
It doesn't matter if it only weighs 40lbs. It will affect the center of gravity. Check this out. Why would the engineers go to such lengths to move around small amounts of weight (doing stuff like modifying the stroke of the engine) if every bit didn't make a difference?

I'm 16, dude. Only two years of science are required, and I'm in my last. (Biology), so no. I'm not saying that it doesn't matter at all, merely that it doesnt seem like it'l make much of a difference, because it's not tall, it's pretty wide, and it look like it's gonna be heavy. (And you don't have to tell me about Yamaha's... That's what I'm riding in my avatar. I'm pretty familiar with how dirtbikes are produced, and what goes into them.)

Not only is that engine mounting going to throw off the COG, but its going to make your drive train more complicated. I say just mount it on the side of the seat.

And I relish the opprtunity to learn, as I don't think I'm going to college. So what I learn in highschool is probably all I'm going to learn. (Academic wise.)

Im mounting the motor backwards due to some clearance issues running my drive train, I am mounting a gear instead of a drive sprocket, and a gear on a jack shaft bolted to the motor. This will change the drive rotation back to normal, then I'm running a chain down to the suspension piviot point that will have a double idler sprocket, then to my rear axle. Sounds complicated but is not much different that a standard rear swing arm kart.
I know the motor is a bit high, its just sitting there for photos, It weighs about 50lbs and it'll have a big affect on side roll overs and tipping back while climbing steep hills. I am working on ways to mount it lower without changing my frame too much.
I would suggest you should atleast get some tech school during your juinor/senior year if its available at your school, or enroll after you graduate. I took welding, machining and residential electric in school and it has helped me out alot. I am currently a machinist and I enjoy my job. I can work on my projects and use of all their tools and machines (and heated muli bay garages) for free. If your on this forum you probly hands on, take an auto mech class, or whatever interests you. Even if you dont choose that as a profession, you will have those skills and knowlage for life and can use them on your own projects.

I say just mount the engine on the swing arm, would rather have unsprung weight than a high COG and complicated drive train. Also, having a gear in
