right now i am running a 212CC predator (with all the right mods)
have about 12HP right now

Racing in the SCCA they dont really have a class for Clones and so i really have no compitition unless i get a shifter kart. i dont have the cash for that...

so just to at least close the gap could i use a Full auto 125cc engine like this one and just "throw" it on there?

Id personally take 'that' $$$ youd sink into that motor, n get a Comet TAV2 w/ a 9T(#41chain), depending on your tire size... a 45T-60T n blow past em probably!? I have a TAV2 on my Honda GX200,w/ 'most' of the right mods(10-11hp) geared w/ a 9T n 45T on 16" wheels... I do 45-50mph on the street. The TAV2 has 3 setting(at the driven), depending the terrain you drive(street/yard/dirt or hills). You would have to manually swap the settings(the yard settings is pretty universal).

Bigger question is: Would they allow it? I'm guessing not.

they would allow it SCCA is pretty lax when it comes to Kart racing.

i know what work it would take to put the engine on.

im just wondering what Full auto engine i could use for the go kart

The Comet TAV2, not familiar with that? what will this do for me exactly

here is a pic of it

Hmm... how to explain a TC/CVT to someone that dont know... hmmmm

A TC/CVT is a 'form' of automatic 'transmission' when gearing, you gear for top speed, instead of a safe ratio, to not burnup your cent clutch. A TAV2 is a all in one bolt on(some grinding possibly) version of the TC that creates a .9 ratio at top speed(ie. over-drive... +10% top speed added to calculated gearing top speed...

I think that somewhat explains what a TC TAV2 'is'

... its a go kart thing.

power to money ratio i would use a kt100 yamaha engine. I am gonna run the scca solo here local also with mine. I really think that engine your looking at might not be much more than what you have already.

not sure if anyone is listening still but The Torque Averters that are out there are all rated to just 9hp i have at least 12HP so will they slip/fail?

and also say i can go 55mph now, so i will only be able to go 5mph more with the CVT?

With 12 hp, you need to step up to a 40 series torque converter. More money, but handles a lot more hp. They have them in a 3/4" bore..... If you set it up properly, no slipping..... And it gives you a 10% overdrive. If your gear set gets you 60 mph maxed out, the TC will get you another 6mph......

You should ask your tracks race director or tech inspector about using that engine.
I don't think anyone here on this forum races SCCA karts

Old thread here, but Sounds like the locals are racing 125cc shifter karts. These are 30-40HP machines that can easily do 100MPH+. They are fast.

I have a kart with modified twin engine clones (about 9HP each) with TAV2 CVT transmissions. I also have a 100cc racing kart that has about 25HP and a Horstman clutch. The 100cc racing engine is a beast. I might get about 55-60 MPH on twin engines, eventually. The 100cc racing kart will get to 60 in 4.5-5 seconds, and will top out around 75 MPH (all depends on the drive sprocket). CVTs will not get you much more top end, they just provide better acceleration and an effective 3:1 overall reduction ratio. HP and gearing is what matters. 12HP cannot compete against 30-40HP

There are some videos on Youtube that show a 100cc/125cc with centrifugal clutch running against a 125cc shifter. You have to get the right gearing for the track with the centrifugal clutch, just to stay close, but with the shifter, they can blast out of a corner and still get very fast in the straights.
