My Tecumseh OHH 60 71131C is misting fuel out of the carb when I hit the accelerator. Engine hesitates a moment, then seems to increase rpm ok. If I go to about mid throttle & snap it to wide open it will mist fuel out again

Adjusted the valves .004 on both - cold

The engine starts fine ( several primer bulb pumps)
and idles great after warm up

I put a new after market carb on because the oem carb was doing the same thing...probably nothing wrong with the orig carb

Have not opened up the motor yet

Thanks in advance

Plug looks ok

I can see the mist exiting the carb during the hesitation. I 'll put my hand near the carb inlet, and I can smell a strong gas odor on my hand. to do this the air cleaner is of course off.

I was just reading here about the red emulsion tube at the venturi area of the carb. When i look inside while the motor is running, the fuel , in my opinion , seen to be dribbling out...not at all smooth. Seems to me like too much fuel. But idle s fine

Good advice! Tks

I looked around for a overhaul kit, found a couple on the bay at around $85.00 with a piston /wrist pin. Guess I won t know what I need til its apart

My HF flyer showed up today with a Predator 6.5 HP motor listed for 99.00, with the 20% off
coupon, gets it down to around 80.00 bucks and all I need to do is bolt it on

Suggestions appreciated
tks

Rebuild kit is unnecessary.
At the very worst a new valve may be needed, and of coarse some gaskets.
Some folks prefer to purchase a Chinese something-or-other rather than take on the challenge (and actually learning something) of refurbishing what they have on hand.

Don't get me wrong, Russ, I'd prefer to repair it too but, sometimes, it's either not possible (due to parts availability, severe damage) or simple nowhere near cost effective; we've previously proven that just about anyone can rebuild an engine, it's just a matter of weighing up the pro's & cons...

Took it apart, Found the problem

Cam was off 1 tooth....
via PO assembled it wrong , or because of the damage I found internally

Parts list:
intake gasket 1.83
valve cv gskt 4.19
cyl cv gskt 2.02
cam shaft 23.84 needed because end stud chewed up/worn .045
gear-governor 12.41 8 broken teeth
spool-governor 2.02
crank seal 4.65
crank seal 7.20
intake valve 12.04 chipped/at the top of the stem. had to file it to remove
valve retainer 1.97 chipped
valve springs(2) 8.20 as long as i have it apart

Total 83.53 + ship

Sad thing is that the rest of the motor (cyl & rod brgs) looks
pretty good

Looks like I'm off to the china freight store.....
Unless you guys think the Tecumseh is worth the cost of parts
I'm thinkin probably not

Tks Gents
