interesting, i cant find any prices on them, but i assume they gotta be expensive, and not have the aftermarket support like a clone no?

r97, i see why you like the subies so much now! They seem better than a honda to me, although they have less parts available. Are they cheaper?

Well, the carburetor version is about $450 retail, although you can pick them up one ebay brand new for as low as $280. My guess would be somewhere around $600, although you could email them to get a more accurate quote.

After market performance is there, and slowly growing, although it's not much in comparison to the Honda GX/clone market. Robin Subaru does actually make a race prepped engine called the KX21. Here are a few links,

Yes, excellent engines, very well built with high standards, and advanced technology. Personally, I would go for a Subaru instead of a Honda in most cases, unless I was dead set on modifying the crap out of it, a race class I'm entering uses only Honda, or the Honda is significantly cheaper. In no way am I saying Honda is terrible, Honda is an excellent company and I would be just as glad to own one of there products.

Both engines cost roughly the same, about $380 for the 6.5HP range, although there are some amazing deals on the Subaru engines on ebay, EX17 for $225 shipped, EX21 for $320 shipped, and EX27 for $275 shipped. (the clones retail for what, $180? $45 for a huge increase in quality!) If you'r budget is super tight, you can look for these engines on generators, pressure washers, etc (the EFI version is found on some of these too). Do keep in mind though that if you get a used engine and parts are missing, factor in the cost of parts as these parts are not inexpensive (also keep in mind that once replaced the parts will last you a long time!).

The subaru twin found on ezgo golf carts pre mci engines are imo a good start. (the later mci's faced poor metallurgy issues) Short stroke, balanced, ohc.

Ha yes they are the first to start using fuel infection

But a big down side here is have u ever tried servicing a fuel infection system with a 10mm spanner and a flat head screw driver
Also a lot of moving parts means a lot up go wrong
And most people wouldn't know how it works

These engines are really advanced and really cool but there is a very simple reason that Honda is the preferred brand for using in industry

KISS will win out for a fair while yet
