Hey everyone I have an old dingo kart and the front end bounces, a lot. I tightened up the spindles so there is no play up and down. The front tires are in need of replacing could that be the issue?

Thanks in advance.

No, no springs that I can recall. I'll double check it tomorrow when I go visit my folks. It's supposed to be the grandkids' toy.

Most likely tires as they are both bald down the middle. Fortunately it's just the fronts that need replaced.

But I'll give 'em a spin anyway.

I have a feeling that there is more to it than bald tyres. Baldness shouldn't make the kart bounce. The tyres have probably gone bald because of bad steering geometry, and that is probably why it bounces. Are the tierods bent at all? Post some pics of the front of the kart. Straighten the wheels so they face to to front, and take a pic of the front end from above. Do the same when the wheel is turned all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. This will give us some idea of what the steering geometry is like.

The problem could be something like a bent spindle too? Was it ever in a crash?

Here are some bad pictures I took in a hurry. No crashes I'm aware of. I'll try to get a closer look at the spindles right tie rods is a little bent, but not too extreme. I've adjusted the ends to straighten the tires.

Yes as soon as I get back to visit my parents later. Like I said it's supposed to be the grandkids' "toy". But I'll have more and better pics later today.

The pics were more of fabro asking about spindle springs is all.

Yes, and take TONS of pics, every angle you can. You would be suprised what experienced eyes will catch. Could tell you something else is wrong that you don't even know of yet.

I'm thinking bent rim or spindle possibly.

I also have the bouncing effect going through the yard and there is a little bend in a flat stock welded on the bottom of the spindle mount. My back is killing me after ridding for about an hour. Tires are whooped too and i have no springs in the spindle brackets. I am going to look into some kind of spring suspension for the front and what about some kind of pivot behind the seat with shocks that i can weld in. I bought this for $300 today and no way can i keep driving this this way or my back will be shot. Im no spring chicken but i have always wanted one of these. Have a Dingo IV 9 HP Briggs with electric start. I have not looked around closer to find a model number if the dingo IV isnt it.
Any help would be appreciated. Ill take pictures in the daylight tomorrow to show the go kart better.
Thanks Dave

I still smell a Dingo there...
yes I know, but the 3xx-390 for example didn't have springs (392 did... ;))

Anywhoo,
the pictures Paul (landuse) asked for are VERY IMPORTANT to see what's going on.

can be as easy as swapped spindles (some people do that to lower the front)
but could be as ugly as a bent front beam.

So.. pictures from above the whole front axle, steering left, centered and right is the minimum.

maybe one from the front (straight, so lay down Dave ;)) would be nice too.

What we're really looking for are shots that mimic architectural drawings...centered over the front end to give an overhead . view.....

Looking at close-up angles are pretty much useless.....

Ok Thanks Guys. I can see the left tire leaning in a bit on the top so that side for sure has some issues. Ill take a picture of that too. I am really excited to finally get a better go kart rather than the one i had at the age 15. 3 hp maybe 1 wheel peel and very small tires. It was fun though for sure.
Thanks Again
Dave

If the back tires are under inflated or low on air it will cause that also. On my dingo a few years ago I had to add more air and it cured it. Those big balloon style tires will do that. Could be a bent axle on rear also along with tires. So raise the back up and spin it also to make sure.
