Hi all, r.mac from co here. Trying to put together a kart from stuff I picked up off craigs. Got two little karts that were sold by Costco with Chinese gx21 4strokes. One in parts and one runs poorly, smokes like a fiend. Rear discs, paddle controls, too small for my eleven year old with all the plastic but stripped down it looks promising. Got a Honda gx31 to stick in or I have a 3hp Tecumseh on a snow thrower? What say you?
Cool site btw. I'll get more pics up later, I'm in my hot tub!

:welcome2:
I got family up there....
You came to the right place for information. We got tons of it.... And what we have is not enough, we shall find more..... :wai:
EDIT
Use the 3hp tec, especially if it's a 2stroke..... You won't be happy with the gx31..... Well you might be surprised, but doubt you'll be happy.... It's tiny.....

thanks, i put some pics in an album on my profile page. i bought the 3hp engine with the hope of a kart or mini bike but the plan is to get something tame to get my daughter in and my wife comfortable with the idea before we ramp it up. the frame is small and she'll outgrow it tomorrow but for just tooling around the hood it should work. i think i can get the honda engine to drop right in if i can figure out the clutch/transmission.

Just looked at them pics..... Dayuumm! That's pretty cool! ! I wish I could find one like that around here.....
Did the kart come with clutch and transmission? Is that what that one pic was, how you got it? If so, then that Honda should just bolt up..... IIRC. I think they all use the same bolt pattern on the output side, for clutch, ect...
What part of the the drive system do you not understand?

thanks jim. the frames are really well designed but only made of 3/4" tubing but the spindles disc brakes and steering linkage is pretty tight. the problem with the tranny is that the original which integrates an engine mount has a 2" clutch while the gx31 engine i have is a 3" clutch. think i can switch flywheels between the honda and the clone? everything else switches. my other option is to have spanner bar machined to use 2" clutch shoes on the 3" flywheel...

I don't think making the bars will work.....
I'd try swapping the flywheel. Your right, most of that stuff is interchangeable.....
EDIT
Post more pics of what you're working with.....

these are the two trannys; the 2" clutch has the engine mount with it and as you can see its a tiny #25(?) chain.
the clone flywheel looks smaller in the photo; it measures the same diameter. never pulled a flywheel; any hints?
