thinking about using angle steel for my frame. would I be ok using 1x1x1/8 or should I be using something a little bit thicker like 1x1x1/4.

:iagree: with Noley...

You could build with the angle stock but it has a tendency to twist and flex.

even with cross supports?

The reason thinking about angle is weight. its about half of round. also the ease of running wiring and throttle and brake cables.

Only way you get get rid of some of the flex is go to a bigger size angle like 1 1/2x.100. But like stated before it's not a good material for a gokart frame. You would be better off using pipe.

i built a go kart out of 1.25 x 1.25 x .125ish angle iron from a bed frame. It has a fair amount of torsional flex but i haven't had any problems with it. If you have the angle iron available, use that, but tubing would be better.
