If I were to repaint or spray paint a go kart frame could I use one of those metal bristle brush things you can put on a drill to take the old paint off? I can't sand blast it and I don't wanna just paint over it because it would look like crap. Also what could I use to remove some rust?
Thanks! :D

Go to harbor freight and buy a 4 1/2 in 11,000 rpm grinder for $9,a plastic backer pad for $2 and some 4 1/2 in disks @ .80 each.works great

A wire wheel on a drill would work, but its a PITA. An angle grinder with a wire wheel on it would probably work best.

They will work, but the only way to stop rust from comming back will be to sand blast.

No, it isn't. Get a knotted cup wire wheel for your angle grinder, and go nuts. It will take the paint off, it will take the rust off. Strip everything down to bare metal, and clean frame with a good solvent like acetone. Then, apply a good primer. Done properly, it'll keep the rust away for years. Also, if the rust is pretty bad and you're short on elbow grease, look into Naval Jelly or Rust Converter.

Use self ecthing primer and
+1 for knotted wire brush ( I have use the crimped one before and they never stand up to any abuse or last any length of time)

I put one of these flap wheels on my grinder, and it worked brilliantly. Like a knife through butter. It also scratches your metal nicely to hold paint.

Flap wheels are the best. just got one for my angle grinder. So happy. (it's essentially a bunch of layers of sand paper put together)

I love flap wheel too, but you have to keep in mind that it's like a grinding wheel in that it will eat thought your metal very quick.. So stick with a higher grid paper and always keep it moving ... I use the flap wheels for prepping metal whether it's beveling the metal or just cleaning it up...I use alot also is the Polycarbide Abrasive Wheel which I found to work very good for taking up paint and rust without destroying the metal ..

only if u really sit in one spot for a long time
it is good for smoothing grinding marks though

just remember u dont need to push down on the grinder just run over it

and hold it flat

I have restored all sorts of stuff for cars, bikes, karts anything really.

I use the knotted wire wheels, it does remove most of the rust. After I remove what I want to, I use wax & grease remover (or acetone) to clean the area. Then use a rust converter or, believe it or not, the "Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer" (I have a 1 gallon can of it & a few spray cans of it) which works GREAT! I was VERY surprised! I also use this stuff called "Master Series". That stuff is THE BEST I've used so far!

Some of the "rust converters" actually do work, but, not all of them. There are SO MANY ways to do it too! You can use a small car battery charger to electrolysis the rust off as well!

Hope this helps!

Let us know how it turns out Man!

Here's a pic of before & after of my VW Chassis...
(I obviously had to replace one side of the floor. In these pics I was using the knotted wire wheel, Master Series, & Rustoleum Gloss Black, & it still looks wet!)
Before:

(This is the side that I did not replace)

After:
(A little dusty, but, still looks nice to me)

I used the "Rusty Metal Primer" & the gloss black on my backing plates.

MasterSeries is excellent stuff, used it on my pickup bed and chassis. Not sure I would waste it on a kart chassis though due to the cost.
