Hi, this is my first post and first go kart build. I have been browsing through the site to learn but have a few questions.

The kart is a barn find that I wanted to fix up for my son to ride but I am having a hard time finding any information about it.

If anyone could let me know what type of potential this has within a reasonable budget I would much appreciate it.

I can't recall a vintage kart with such a slender "V shaped" steering hoop. Any more pics of rear end axle area? I bought a homemade frame that was almost identical to a vintage kart that is quite rare. Upon closer inspection, every weld was sloppy and unfinished. Once karting started to get popular in the early 60's, 1000 and 1000's of homemade karts were built based off of what the race kart builders were building. Are the welds generally nice or sloppy?
Sloppy = homemade.

EDIT: Those front braces seem familiar though. IDK.

I have added a few more pics from the underside. Concerning the welds, some do look to be homemade especially around the seat bottom. But the frame looks good, solid and straight.

The motor mount plate was added later and can be removed.

The axle is live and keyed driven off the drive wheel which has a sprocket and drum for a band brake. The bearings are tapered as well. The rear axle is 3/4" with 4.10-6NHS while the front spindles are 5/8" with 4.10-5NHS.

Looks like factory welds. i can see,the 2 orignal motor mounts, the box on top is all back yard type add on to mount what ever was on there. You have a start! start to gather up parts, wheels, tie rods, spindles, brakes and motor/clutch,then go for it....WALT

I removed the homemade engine mount and found a stamping on the right side mounting plate. It reads (3112), but I still haven't found any type of manufacturers stamping.

Ideally I would like to find out what an original looks like so I can return it to its former glory! :) Thanks for all the feedback so far.

You know what would cool for that?
Dual 6.5 clones with dual TAV2 Torque Converter to a central jack shaft that would be wicked awesome, but at $200 a pop for the torque converters and $100 or so each for the engines it would be somewhat expensive, but **** that would be cool.

Hey I'm open to ideas! I'm currently stripping the old paint off to get to bare metal. There must be about eight coats on this guy.

The back axle is enclosed so I'm trying to figure out what is possible without having to remove and assemble a complete new rear setup.

Yeah I have an off road that has the shaft threw a tube like that.
What I did was got me a new axle about 6" longer than the OEM to give me more room on on both sides.
As far as going duals you would need to figure a way to install an extra long jack shaft, If there is room between the back of the seat and the engine mount plates you could put it there.

looks like the wheels might have had a sprocket attached to each rear wheel.

Here is a few pictures of the kart after the paint removal efforts.

What would be the purpose of the two tubes in between the two engine mounts?

Also, the closest manufacturers to the frame I could find was the swoopster and the bear kart. But neither seemed to be an exact match.

Does it look like that seat recline angle to be factory welds ?
flip it over and see if there are any weld/grind marks.
Makes me wonder if those tubes were old frame supports.
