Im building a kart designed to accommodate my 'fluffy' stature... (im 6ft / 360 lbs) ive got the base frame close to finished with 1/8" wall 1" sq tubing... can i build the stiffening structure out of somthing lighter with a thinner wall to save weight? Like a 1/16 wall? Without sacrificing strength

Its primarily an off road kart...

fluffy ?

Aaanyways, that front setup does not look like it'd withstand moving 450++ lbs hitting a curb.

Going with a solid "axle" front suspension, not sure how that'll handle bumps off road. Looks like you have your trailing arms or whatever they are called hooked up, or almost all the way hooked up between the fame and front axle.

Would bump steer be an issue with this setup? I know camber will be constantly changing ove4 bumps, which may be problematic.

If this is one of your first builds, I would keep it simple.

skip the suspension

Concentrate on a HD frane (to carry the weight, especially off road)

use more gentle curves, (not sharp angles)

Stick with the thicker walled tube (stronger & easier to work with) :2guns:

yeah me too...
but on request by the thread starter only

who knows; maybe it's on purpose..
as I can see he never tried himself to correct that himself,
so there's no indication it was a mistake (maybe frane is the project name of his kart ;))

Mod... please correct the title...fat thumbs and smart phones dont mix.

As.it happens, i scrapped the 4-link suspension... it was creating a lotnof headaches with steering geometry. I originally stayed away from a arms cuz i couldn't find a solution for ball joints... but i worked that out

I haven't put a front bumper on it yet as far as the front taking an impact..

As for no suspension..i cant do that..i have bad kidneys and bouncing around in a kart with no suspension makes them.bleed (painful)

Im thinking about using .080 wall instead of the .120 wall on the 'stiffening' structure...

This is where i think i want to go...

Need to move the "dash" forward a ways.. i tacked that in a long while ago trying to figure out positioning.
