A well ported 250 will generally out run a non-ported big bore if it's set up right. Porting the cylinder makes it more efficient thus it makes more power. Builders can also "put" the powerband where you want it, whether it be low end-mid-or top end. The key is to find a builder that know what they are doing. If a builder doesn't ask what pipe, carb, intake setup, etc. that you are running, find another builder.

Very wise words!
If your 2 stroke engine builder doesn't ask about those things your about to get screwed. They are all very important pieces to the puzzle if your pursuing max performance gain. Each piece is just as important as the other. They need to all be working together for the best gains. If your gonna spend your money on engine mods get all you can from it. Pick your engine builders brain a little before just dropping it off. It's scary how many unqualified people are just hammering engines together for profit.
