Thats the remainder of the pump housing , will be able to remove it later ...

Be aware that a lot of water pump engines have a tapered shaft, making them unsuitable for use on a go kart...

And checked , its not a redux box , its just the governor housing i guess , because you can see in picture #3 , there is the second filler cap , and the governor arm sticking thru the housing above it ...

No, that's just the sump; as explained above, these engines have two oil fillers...

The governor is located in the main internal, bottom end cavity of the engine, otherwise known as "the sump", & runs directly off the crankshaft...

If i hadnt stepped on it it would have ended in the opposite wall... so yeaa

And the springs are rusted so it cant keep a smooth idle , also the reason it died on me :(

So a little update :

I tore the engine down in a day , prepped it for painting , and for new oil / exhaust / air filter / carburetor .

P.S - also removed the governor , what would be a good way to plug the hole ?

A good way to plug the hole is to stick something in it. :lolgoku:

Seriously, thread the hole with a tap and then apply a little sealer to the correct size bolt for the treads you just made. NOTE: Use the shortest bolt you possibly can so it does not stick into the crankcase.

Ok thanks for that guys ...

Will be back to working on the engine in a couple of days ... meanwhile working in AutoCAD , designing an exhaust to send off to a exhaust shop down the street ... and since i know him , he will charge a little or nothing ..

AutoCAD : http://imgur.com/IZs9VyH

Now , the big one : To reuse the old carburetor , or to restore it , or get a whole new one ( my original plan ) ?

Id say the carb on it is operational , but barely ... And since i thought of getting a new exhaust , i figured a better carb would also help out ...

Do you guys have any recommendations ? Also , i have a pod filter laying around , maybe i could use it too ?

A thorough clean, oversized jet & hi-flow air filter is usually enough to gain the extra "ooompf" you're looking for; the stock carb & inlet filter system are restrictive by design; by simply replacing the air filter setup & exhaust, the engine will "wake up" considerably...

Once you start trying to fit a new (different from stock) carb, you run into all kinds of issues, starting with fitment; depending on which carb you use, you may need to make an adaptor...

Here is some more work on the engine ....

To do list :

- new spark plug

- fabricate air filter bracket , and throttle assembly

- put new gaskets , and new oil

- new exhaust

- paint the parts needed
