Well if all this rain. ive never had the chance to work on it,but something interesting happend today. It was raining alot. flooded the roads. Well my dad was driving home today with the older taurus. Well he went through a flooded curb and the car almost swapped. But what happen after we got out it cleared the exhaust and went on.

Well it is now running EXACTLY like the green taurus. so obvisoly water in the system of the old one. but could that explain the green taurus problem?

i think the main problem here is ford taurus?

accidently buying one is understandable but owning TWO!? you must be nuts haha

edit: and yeh spray some crc under dizzy cap and check to see if water sitting/trapped in the plug holes etc. Check the airfilter and see if its full of water

edit: thats just general things to do if you've driven a car through water and its running funny. I dunno anything about the inner workings of a taurus

Ya he has coil packs so no distributor, but i have done that to fix a old honda i had after going through a large puddle. Spray with wd40 to displace the water on the ignition components.

I'm just curious how you narrowed it down to the fuel system?

What do you mean swapped? Do you mean swamped?

well thats my best guess. i havent looked much into it. but i assume it got in there somehow. but ill check the ignition components.
we really have to fix the old one. thats the main work transporter for my dad.

Have you checked to make sure the exhaust isn't blocked up somewhere? A degraded catalytic converter can cause some funky symptoms.

Usually, but not all the time. I've seen cases where it didn't.

thats interesting. cause before we picked it up from my grandma (green taurus) it did have a check engine light on when just idling. but when we moved it it went out. haven't seen it since. Ill never know what it was for.

But for the first hr and a half of driving it home it ran perfect besides a slight miss(it always had one. cant seem to get rid of it.)

then we hit slow traffic with road work. the moment we got through it not even 10 miles down the road it started to act up.

Well the pump was the issue. it fixed the problem......but as true to ford taurus law. fix something break something. So it ran fine after the pump. then it was took on a long trip. and wouldn't ya know the transmission went and started to act up.

What happened on the way back the trans just quit. no pull at all. in any gear. it just acted as if in neutral.

But if you turned the car off and back on it would work fine for a awhile then just quit again. no noises. no clunks. it just quits pulling.

there is one weird thing though. after it started this it started to run weird. not necessarily bad but different. '

Im stumped. i think it could be the TC in the trans. or maybe a shift sensor? idk.

Any ideas guys?

I had exactly the same problem with my V6 Camry; basically, your trans is toast.

What's happening is all the muck that's worn off the bands & clutches has mixed with the fluid & clogged up the filter. When you turn the car off, the fluid runs back down through the filter & clears it for a bit, allowing it to work properly until it clogs up again.

If you remove the filter, you should get a few more miles out of it but, start looking for a new trans now :)

Where exactly is the filter?

Nevermind. the miracle of youtube.
