I don't know a thing about a circuit. Yet I can repair 70% of them.

1) Look for burnt stuff....

2) Look for bulged capacitors. The metal cap gets a crown to it.

that seems to be a common pc problem. i find if you keep you pc fairly clean and cool you usually don't have problems.

I have solid state capacitors

Might want to add that if they arent bulging but have crusty or wet stuff on top they are also screwed lol.

i guess if you build your own computers you get to choose what parts you use but most people buy them from the store. i take good care of my computers and they last pretty long. i still even have a few 486's floating around.

Yea, most new motherboards are completely solid state capacitors. Some have a few normal caps, but not many.

The older motherboards are the easiest to fix The capacitors are nice and chunky, makes taking them off easy as haha

The thing I'm working on that inspired this thread is a free 32" Astar flatscreen TV (QVC special). Not a projection TV....

A buddy gave it to me. He said it works great, but turns on and off on its own. I pulled it apart, and immediately found four swollen capacitors on the main power board. NeoCon or RubyCon, I can't remember. They are in the trash. I ordered new genuine Panasonic capacitors from Mouser. The Japanese still make kick butt stuff..

the older ones never had much of a quality problem. even the knock of no name brand stuff use to be made with decent parts that where less likely to fail than stuff made today. it is just so amazing how many times thing are dead straight out of the box.

Got it! My caps came today. All put together and working. I'm amazed having this monster TV after having a 25" old school for so long now.
