I don't know about you guys.. but im sick of the cold up here in the north east..


Im ready to get back on the ponds/small lakes and do some bass fishing!

I have family somewhere outside dallas (aunt and uncle). My mother frequently visits them this time of year!

Havent had a chance to make it down myself..

I am waiting for flounder season then fluke season to kick in. Then there is the spring striped bass run hopefully soon.

yesterdays catch in a new area I've never been to before.. could not stop catching these things! holy fish! it was one after one.. caught like 10 of them!

Absolutely- very tasty. ...but they also make great live bait when fishing for these......

That's what they are. We don't call them barbies- that's a popular little girls doll (also a collector item in some cases) that came out in the 50's and was based on a sex doll from Germany. We call them flatheads, yellow cat or oppolusas (bad spelling). We have channel cats- @ 10lb. max, bullheads@ 2lbs. max (also called mudcats- not very good eating) , bluecats @80 lbs. max., and yellow cat- about the same max size but much tastier.

Down on the coast we have saltwater hard-head catfish. .. ( considered inedible by most) and gafftopsail (a trout relative) considered a good eating fish.

I usually only keep and eat either crappie or catfish. Lately I've just been getting my catfish from the grocery store as those Asian catfish (sold as Basa or Swai here) are about as good eating as you can get and @ $3-4 a pound (fillets).

yeah those were about little bigger then palm size, they taste pretty good, would eat ten of them over a single catfish..

sorry poboy, but my ex's mom use to make catfish all the time. I gave it several shots, the smell of it cooking is enough to make me run out of the house and 4 blocks down to get away from it.

Wild boar, catfish, and lamb, and mutton, I will never like...

but instead of insulting other peoples likes and dislikes - that I respect your taste in food, its just not for me..

Have you ever had lion fish? It's pretty darn tasty! only crapshoot [I can say that here right?] is florida fish and wildlife requires you to get tags or something to hunt for lionfish in the ocean, because they want to keep track of their numbers [they aren't suppose to be in our waters, I blame the pet stores around here...]

Oh yeah, gulf coast crabs rock! I get crabs from the keys every time I go. and not from my lady friends either.

Oysters are good, scallops are good, and lobster is good, just got done eating some popcorn shrimp. but it was the freezer kind.. never had gulf brown shrimp, or at least I don't think so... I never had shark, or triggerfish. and yeah I don't get to the coast as much as I like. its like 60-70 miles either direction. stinks being in the middle.. lol I do lots of fresh water fishing.

I also don't know what kind of catfish it was, but it stunk so badly every time it was cooked..!

Are you talking about blue crabs? Tasty- but small...I really like Dungeness crabs but they are so hard to find raw....So usually I use snow crab- but you have to try this: Take the frozen clusters- spray with some non-stick Canola spray and season with Lowreys or BBQ rub. Put on the smoker between 160°-180°f for about 2 hrs. Melt down some salted butter, add some garlic powder and lime juice for dipping and you will never want to eat crab any other way. ... (well...maybe some good crab cakes.)

Maybe you shouldn't eat any brown shrimp. ....I found out about them from a commercial shrimper.....and you will never enjoy white shrimp the same way again. ......

And for you Texas boys....I get Jerry's Gulf coast oysters up here and there isn't any better. ....and I have eaten a lot of them on the half-shell at many oyster bars.......look for them........

what you smoke em in? I got some loquat wood, some lime, lemon, orange, grapefruit, white oak [also can get red oak], and some good ol' dewberry branches! what would you recommend I try first with said crab?

Bout 2 yrs ago, my neighbors n I(we live on a 3 acre pond), drained the pond for inspection/revitalizations(we got annexed into the 'city'). We ended up doin something we had not done for the past 25yrs... we drained the pond dry(it's fed by an upper pond and natural springs), only a thin stream ran though.

We all put our heads together and decided upon dredging the bottom and landfilling our backyards w/ the dredgings...

After we deepened the bottom and raised our land... some of us created a shoreline wall to retain the new level of earth...

Upon completion of the wall, n as we closed the drain dam(to refill the pond... a 10day period), I noticed the frogs/toads had grownup enough to start moving on land(except the bullfrogs... they still needed more time yet)...

Needless to say... we had no bug problems since... Plus w/ all the insects consumed... the populous of frogs became immense and slightly annoying, which gave birth to my last 'hobby' Plinking .177 at 150yds... which, I know sounds slightly hard to believe... but I didnt use 'off the shelf' guns... they were kinda over powered, I lengthened the barrel, lightened trigger... just made it over all a overly dangerous 'toy'... Plus these were my targets...(n this is just one of the 'lil-guys')...

My first 'frog-gigger'... single shot break-barrel, nitro piston(replaced the 'spring' compressor setup)1500-1600fps... I altered the cross-hairs to...

and yes it's got a lazer sight...

My second, gigger, visually was just a off the shelf Benjamin Titan(Crosman)... visually... hehe

... last yr(1yr after refilling the pond... and restocking w/ brim/crappy/bluegill/panfish(same fish... just depends where your from), bass, and a few catfish...

... I know.... kinda small... but seeing as that they were only 2" long a year earlier...

Wow- Totally different woods.....I use a mix of wood usually- but hickory, mesquite, pecan, fallen red oak (I like it mouldy), and sometimes peach or apple. So I can't really say- but anything that works for chicken should work for crab.......
