Hello everybody, Im going to get to the point, I was on old mini bikes.com and they were all very rude! I'm hoping this is a better forum. On to my question,I have a custom go kart, 14inch tires in the front, probably 100lbs +\- 15lbs and had 24s on the back, I tried to use a clutch and it burned like ****! So Im looking at some new 14s now and was wondering if 6.5hp 200pound curb weight and 14s would b okay on a clutch. My gear ratio is 1:9.5! Is this good? What would my speed be? Thanks!

Your large back tyres are the reason that your clutch got smoked. I would definately get the smaller 14" tyres you are talking about for the rears.
Otherwise, everything sounds as if it should be fine. Please could you post some pics of your kart, specifically the sprockets and engine. Could you also provide us with the tooth count on the clutch as well as the axle sprocket. For some reason I am thinking that there might be a problem elsewhere. I could be wrong though. To get a ratio of 1:9.5 on a straight clutch to axle, you are going to have to have a huge sprocket.

I agree with both of these guys. Best option is a cvt but we need to examine your ratio first.

You have to look at power to weight ratio too; yours is up around 31 lb/hp, that's Toyota Prius range. A Ford Fiesta is 29.
Put simply, you would need to spend the money on a cvt or a bigger engine to get any real performance out of it

welcome ! ( although i am pretty new here too!) i'm sure you will find the guys here quite helpful. as stated already ( and you will see this constantly) pics would be of great help ! there are so may different types of karts and setups it just makes things much easier for people to help you.
