Nice kart ander! I have a 7hp techumsa will that work good for my engine! It's gonna mostly be for my kids but I plan I riding to of course!

Yeah a 7hp Tecumseh should work out great. Some guys keep having trouble with dirt plugging up Tecumseh carbs, so make sure you've got some kind of fuel filter installed.

Here's a pic of the frame I am going to go get on monday! Not a good pic, I will get a better one once I pick it up! :wai:

That kinda looks like a Coyote brand sprint kart chassis. They're dam good race karts

Ok so got my frame last night ! It turns out it's a Margay frame ser. 52879! Anybody got info on this! Looks great no bends or cracks! Only thing missing is right nerf bar! And rear axle! Will have to move peddles they are up way to far! Is there any problem with moving them in front of the steering tierods up towards the front bumper!:wai:

Just heard back from Margay Racing and this is what he had to say about my frame! "Thank you for the registration of your 1986 Expert III. In its prime this chassis was the one to beat. Designed with 12 degrees castor it made turning easier for the entry level karter. This chassis is a bit older, but for $150.00 you got it at a great deal."

Double pedals! I've seen it done. Fab up a second set of pedals in the new position and use linkages to interconnect them.

Option b: Adjustable seat.

Question for you steering guy's. Are the tie rods in the pic below bolted to the pitman arm correct? How he has it set up now will it not change the Ackerman? The reason I ask is I did this with my bar stool and it did not work right.

I don't see a problem with it, although I cannot verify the angles.

On my bar stool racer I put them in the middle. When I turned the wheels the ackerman was almost gone. I made another pitman arm like the original and the ackerman was back and fine.

Or something was going on by changing them around.

That's how the steering was set up when I got the frame! Is it not correct! The only thing I know is they are 12 degree spindles! And what is akerman!

Dirt oval race karts are usually set up with both tie rods stacked on the pitman arms center hole like the OP's pics show.

But the tie rods on Sprint/shifter-karts (R/L turn road course) are typically bolted to the pitmans 2 outer holes for increased ackerman effect.

I cant explain why this is the preferred setup for different types of race tracks, but I've tried my race karts set up both ways and agreed they turned best going by that general rule of thumb.

Unless the OP is going to Oval race his kart, I'd think it would turn better with the tie rods re-located to the 2 outer holes. (and then he'd also have to re-adjust the the toe-in)

Looking good man

Yeah you could just mount a second set of pedals and connect them together with linkage-rods or maybe some 1/8" stainless steel cables. Just make sure the taller drivers legs will clear the kiddie-pedals while sitting in the kart.

I'd get either an 1-1/4" or 40mm. diameter axle/components for that frame.
How wide is your frame where the axle bolts on?

Update on 86 margay frame!

I was missing the left nerf bar so I custom made two new ones! Also I replaced the thin bent up floor pan with a new 1/8 in aluminum one! So I'm looking for a complete rear axle if anyone has one laying around! 1 1/4 or 1"! also wheels and hubs! Thanks for all the helpful info!:wai:

The frame is 24" wide where the bearing casings would go! Thanks for the info!

So I'm looking for a complete rear axle

Ok cool, nice nearfs dude

I would not install a 1" axle on your race kart. I'd go with a 1-1/4" racekart style unless your installing a 30+hp. motorcycle engine, then you'd probably want a big-beefy 50mm. setup like 125cc. shifter karts usually have.

Most all the racekart-style hubs and cassette type bearings you'll commonly find for sale will be for 1-1/4", 30mm. 40.mm or 50mm axle diameters. Only vintage race karts used 1" axles, so high quality parts will be harder to locate.

Measure across your kart and post the distance between the very outer ends of your 2 front spindles.
And also post total OD. measurement across from your 2 nerf bars, and then I'll then be able to suggest the best width axle for your kart.

Post (or pm me) your towns name, or at least the area of Ohio you'd be willing to drive to for a bargain on used parts. I might be able to find some deals in your area for ya.
