I've done some work with buggies and offroad karts, but I just picked up my dad's old racing kart and brought it to the shop to get it moving again.

Some old school members might enjoy this 2 stroke smoker build.

The kart was wrecked and sat since the early 2000's. Before that, I'm told it went 65-70mph with the highest gearing he had. The main damage is the frame has a bend to it that causes it to only sit on 3 wheels. I plan to hopefully straighten it out and get it running. The secondary damage is from 15 years sitting with gas left in it.

I'm not sure what the frame is, but it's already been chopped, welded, and modded enough that it probably doesn't matter any more.

Best of all, it has an 820 kart engine from US motor. It is a continuation of the old west bend 820 chainsaw / industrial engines. This 2 smoker can be built to horsepower in the 15-18 range. At the same time, it can rev to 10,000 plus rpm. Only 8.2ci displacement.

As always, PICS

I've got everything taken off and down to the frame. Hoping to have some time this week and next to figure out how to solidly hold it in place while I strategically apply mechanical force at appropriate points in order to straighten the frame.

Also cleaned the gas tank and have to carb waiting to be taken apart. I want to install a pull starter on it. Currently it is started with an electric starter motor from a 350 chevy that is adapted to a square socket end. There is a socket on the end of the crank to turn with the starter.

You please post a cpl closer pics of it.
Mine is a pull start. When it kicks back it'll pull your arm off.

It's a US Motor 820 engine.
I'll maybe get some pics today, what do you need to see?
Kickback is usually caused by timing issue, like a sheared flywheel key.
