Is this frame worth $375 w/ Honda gx270?

Will I be able to find parts? Seat? Wheels?

Does anyone know the make/model?

Thank you.

Margay is the make.
I would haggle down some just because he invoked the Word "Vintage"
Vintage would be a 1960s Rupp. lol
Still I think that is a ok Price, There are a lot of parts still on it.

So, what recommendations can you all make for a set of tires? I will mostly be riding in our driveway/yard. It is a mix of paved, stone and grass/dirt. Budget is south of $200. Thank you.

It is a race Kart but for grass, stone dirt and pavement.
I would suggest a set of 15x6x6 "Turf saver" tires.

I do understand that it's meant for pavement, but I'm bound by geography. Actually as I understand it, dirty karting is a thing, but I'm not quite ready to spend $400 on wheels/tires.

I'm not opposed to buying used or swapping hubs if that's possible.

These seem like they could work... Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/112208450778

I just bought two complete sets from this guy for $120 shipped. Wheels can be found used. Hit up the classifieds at karting.4cycle.com for used parts. There are also wheel and tire sets that can be bought on ebay for around $150. My neighbors son and I both have that type of kart and we race them in the field. It's more fun than a swimming pool full of whiskey and hookers.

I can tell you it isn't a margay cheetah. They had frame torsion bars and a 3in offset on the front end. They were a race kart, no two were really set up the same . Mine had a McColloch 100 cc. split horseman sprockets in every size . With that :censored: :censored: horstman:censored: :censored: 9/16th tapered shaft cent clutch.:mad2:

That kart looks like one of the Margay X models made back in the 1975-1979 era.

Does that kart come with any extra parts, like a clutch, 15-degree motor mount?

Those Honda GX270 engines have the larger sized output shaft, so you'd be needing a 1" bore clutch or torque converter. ($100-$160)

Those GX270 engines also require the larger sized motor mount, same motor mounts as the GX390 uses. ($110)

Prices of racekart seats can range from $20-used to a couple hundred new...

This is mostly a foreign language to me. I know I'm getting in over my head a bit. I'm good with mechanical/electrical applications, but I do not own any metal fabricating equipment. I do have access to a machinist and a friend with a welder.

To me, the frame alone is not hardly worth $100. It's basically stripped and what it does need will not be cheap and readily available. You'll have to shop in certain niche stores for those racing parts.

Have you considered a basic 'yard kart' and upgrading it with 'go-fast' parts instead? I mean you can approach the level of performance the race karts possess and still have money and sanity left over after all is said and done.

Complete race karts can be had for about $6-800 if you bide your time and look hard. I gave $100 for mine at a pawn shop. The motor was junk, but what do you want for $100?

Well, we didn't come to a deal on this, if anyone sees anything out there that's good for a driveway/yard, and you're not buying it, let me know. Thanks for all the help!

Cullen Go to your Profile and fill in your location.
I remember it was Ohio, but you do not want others telling you about a great deal in... Phoenix!
