Ok, I welded a bolt to the front of my kart which I could mount a camera on. Yesterday I tried this with my regular camcorder, which is a Canon GL1, a Mini DV, not DVD, camcorder. Well turns out the camera didn't like the bumpiness of the ride at all and the image kept getting distorted. So, today I attached my little digital cam onto the front of the kart and drove. Worked much better as there wasn't any mechanical parts or tape in the thing.

I drove around the block so you guys can get an idea of what it looks like, not that you wouldn't have any idea of what driving a kart is like :arf:

Sorry for the 40 seconds that it doesn't seem like anything is happening at the beginning of the video, I was trying to hurry up and get in the kart but I was checking a few things first. I should have waited to start the recording.

The scraping sound you hear at 1:00 and 1:07 is the front of the kart hitting the ground because it's so low. I tried to go at an angle to avoid scraping but it wasn't enough. The camera is sitting like 6 inches off the ground!

At 1:46 after I pass the STOP sign, my engine dies because my brakes didn't return to their spot and release the discs so when I pressed on the gas, the engine stalled. You can hear me say AWWWWWW!!!!! I have to do some work on the brakes, maybe get a stronger spring.

It is pretty fast, kinda scary. I want to take it somewhere where I can really open it up and not worry about cars being all over the place. I was really limited on the places where I could put the camera so I welded a bolt to the front. I'll be removing it though now that I got the video I wanted.

Pretty cool ride-along....and yea, it can get scary flying in between cars and blind curves. :innocent:

if you were planning on capturing more video, i would suggest suspending the camera so that it does not receive so much vibration
when the video starts, you can actually hear the camera's plastic parts rattling

or just duct tape the camera to a helmet :D

I don't have a helmet :(

I really don't plan on taking anymore video with the camera attached to the kart. It was mostly a one time thing. If I do, I'll find some other way to attach it. Maybe I'll have a helmet next time :arf:

only reason i said stick it to your helmet is because your head doesnt vibrate like the kart, and id be worried the vibration will kill the camera quickly
anyways, i liked the vid!

Thanks and yeah, I was worried with the vibration. Then again, that was the same camera that I dropped into a bucket of water a little over two weeks ago. I should post the first video I took with the regular camcorder so you guys can see what it was like :arf: It was horrible. I'll put it up if anyone replies to this that they want to watch it, if not, I won't waste time transferring it to my computer, encoding, and uploading.
