First of all, I am new to this forum, and to go karts. A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to build a off road, and it has been a trip. Or maybe I should say a large learning curve. And the main reason I wanted to build is because I have three electric start motors, a 8 HP Briggs, a 18 HP Kohler Magnum, and a 20 HP Teledyne (Wisconsin). The problems have been many. I have worn out three computers looking at Youtube, and many forums and websites. I have re-engineered one used go kart, a Murray, just for practice, by replacing the axle with a live axle and using larger tires. I used the 8 hp B&S, a cent. clutch, had/have a problem hooking up a throttle that will stay connected, and in generaL have decided to go back to the "build". The Murray will not turn in a radius less than about 500 feet (my estimate) and will ot stop with a "band" type brake.
I am well into this build, have the frame welded together, am going to have full suspension (A frames on front, and swinging/hinged rear motor support). Biggest problem I now see, is the two larger motors are too large and heavy. Both probably weigh at least 100# But, this is enough of my rattling. Glad to be here, and am looking forward to reading. And I might have a question or two. Or three.:mad2:
