You know, now that Dieselchanic pointed it out, I tend to agree, the weld does look a little cold; IIWM, I'd grind the welds down & run another slightly hotter bead...

Had to learn to weld for work(still a LOT to learn!)
That's going to be true no matter how long you've been doing it. I have difficulty just reminding myself of the basics (prep work prep work prep work and plan ahead for warping) when I haven't welded in a while.

Wait until you start welding other materials in ever more awkward locations and positions.

Finally got the frame finished. Controls are all run, just need a few coats of paint and final assembly. We may be karting tonight!

Finished!!!
Well sort of, still have some steering linkage issues to work out, but it goes and it stops.
Serious issue, holy vibration!
Does any one run rubber spacers between the motor and chassis or something to that effect to reduce vibration?

Someone did. .. (I want to say Fabroman)....but whoever it was had problems with the motor walking and the chain coming loose.....

Shouldn't be that much vibration. .....something is wrong somewhere. ....

How thick is motor mount plate maybe you are having an induced resonant vibration. Might need to beef up mount plate. Great looking kart love the diamond plate floor!

Found my vibe issue.
Fresh paint let the motor move a bit and two of the motor mount bolts backed off and were loose.
Scraped the paint where the motor touches the mount plate, torqued all motor bolts down and vibe was reduced to acceptable level.
Took it to a local parking lot and ran for about an hour. Everything stayed tight and ran well. 12/72 gears accelerate nice, the layout at the parking lot is short and tight and the thing steers better than I expected. Not much push at all (concrete), turn the wheel and the nose goes! Easy to make the tail step out. This thing would be a hoot on a dirt track.
Lots of tweaking and tuning to do but at this point totally satisfied with my first build.
