first kart build in 40 yrs

Got the bug again when my son gave me a set of wheels from a dumpster dive. Frame is mostly 1.25 inch 14 gage tubing. Running 208cc Ironton with 12 teeth on clutch and 60 teeth on a 10 inch wheel. Top speed of about 25 mph. Tons of fun to drive.

Put a 45 tooth on the wheel a few minutes ago. Still plenty of giddyup and now goes about 33 mph.
I also learned my scrub brakes are worthless on wet pavement. Any suggestions on how to make them more effective?

Weld roofing nails on the inside....(it only works once but you can stop on a dime....and give BMI $50 in change)......

Scrub brakes will never work well in the wet. Putting rubber on them is the only way to make them stop better

Put a pad of rubber conveyor belt on the shoes. Much better dry and adequately functional wet.

Put $600 bucks on it. You probably wont get it. But Jeez it seems like that what every body else does, so why not. Probably got a solid $400 bucks there.

Asked for and sold for $450. In hindsight I think I set my price too low. I should have waited until after the buyer did a test drive. I probably could have got a lot more.
