First Kart build help with Speed controller wiring!

Hi guys, ive bought some bits for an electric go kart project, its only a small scale project and only uses a 300W 24v motor. I'm competent in a fair bit of electrics, ive built electric bike fine.

I am however trying to figure the wiring out on this. Its a generic Chinese 500w 24v speed controller, I have bought a foot pedal as shown. Its powering a 300w 24v motor hopefully. I have determined the big black and red is the battery input and the big yellow and blue are motor outputs.

the foot pedal wiring has red black and green on the speed controller side, but red black and white on the throttle side, I could of course change theses.

Basically I guess what I'm asking is that ive attached the batteries, motor and pedal and I cant get the motor to move. With these controllers is there anything else I need to get it going or attach wires somewhere? I just need nothing more than press throttle pedal down and the motor to turn. I do hope someone can advise me thanks guys :)

unfortunately your pics are to small to be of much use :(

Anyways..
it's fairly generic labelling as far as I can see

brake signal is usually a NC switch which means as long as the "brake" labelled connector is NOT connected, it won't work at all!
for testing only, it's okay to just short the pins on the connector with a wire
(it is NOT for when it's mounted to the kart btw!.. so get a switch for the brake pedal)
key switch IDK depends on the mfg I guess,
but it's safe to just test both (shorted or not)


chinese mfgs don't care much about wiring colors I'm afraid.
red is not always +5V and black is not always ground
and the remaining color is unfortunately not always signal.

Sooo.. yeah;
make sure it is on the controller side.
test it with a multimeter.
one +5V (usually red)
one ground (usually black)
one input signal line (0v.. usually green or blue)

the throttle is more difficult to test I'm afraid.
but two of the leads should have a constant (measurable!) resitance no matter if the throttle is depressed or not
(hopefully one of which is red)
in which case the remaining one should be the signal line, the red one the +5V

Really appreciate your help, I managed to get it fired up!! I swapped throttle wires over so the reds were matching and the blacks, the white and green I guess were the signal. I then figured it probably needed a key switch.. the connector that said " lock" had 24v positive and negative each side....I took a wire from the + and attached it to a red on the battery meter connector and bingo it all works perfectly! I'm guessing effectively I just bypassed a key lock?

What?

the lock connector already has the battery line (24V in your case)
connected internally..
In fact the red battery wire, the blue motor wire and one of the blue lock wires
should ALL have 0Ohms with any of the respective others..
means they are internally all soldered to the same spot in case of such controllers

So all you need to do is short the two blue wires on the lock connector (one of which usually is black.. but yeah chinese are colorignorant at times ;)))
(feeding the 24V line to the undervoltage protection circuit, which essentially is now reading 0V and thus not powering the motor)
At least that's what non-microcontroller motor controllers usually do
(the ones I've seen that is)
