Hi, I'm interested in building a yard kart with my brothers just to do a little on and off road driving, but nothing to harsh. I'm trying to keep it to a very low budget project and I have a few questions. I'm planning on doing a fixed axle because this seems to be the easiest and cheapest, but I'm unsure of the best way to mount the wheels. I know I will need a sprocket and brake mounted to the drive wheel hub, but would I simply weld something like a bolt onto the frame and attach the wheel with a nut. I'm assuming I would need to make some kind of pin to keep the nut from backing out and I guess some grease would be good to reduce wear, but does anyone have any suggestions?

yes ur right. if your making a dead axle.. or one wheel peel machine

they sell hubs with brake drum, sprocket, tire wheel and all at BMI karts 45 bux

then other side.. the dead side. they sell a hub that has 5/8" bearings that will slide on that "BOLT" you welded on.. very easy

Your on track for a great fun project

Thanks for the reply. I thought that was a good idea, but I wanted to clarify with someone with more experience. I'm sure I'll have many other questions. I'm in the process of drawing up a plan for the frame now.
