As per this diagram you provided... these calculations are for the OD of the tire... not the TC
(it has no place in this calculation)

Equally speaking, the circumference(is the distance around wheel's tread for ex.) of a 7" outside diameter wheel, is 21.991148575128552....Like you have shown.... but...
A 22"OD has a circumference of 69.11503837897544.... big difference...
Measure the OD and get back to us... that part is important to figuring the proper ratio....

Edit: you most likely are going to have to change to a different size of chain, as the diameter of a larger tooth count sprocket in #50 chain will be quite large and greatly limit your ground clearance... much better choice would be a #35 or a #40/41.....

Edit 2: Your desired 6:1 ratio with #50 chain will yield about 12.5"OD for a 60t. A #35 chain will yield a 7.380"OD but most likely need about a 72t which is 8.814"OD still just about half and where youll need it...

I read it wrong sorry for some reason I thought it said “driven”. Anyhow to swap to a #35 and get about 20-25mph I’d go to a custom axle with a 70+- tooth sprocket and a 12 tooth on the jack shaft? I don’t mind swapping axles to kick the rear tires out a bit further. I do want to keep the speed down and keep the torque up.

If you want to keep torque and speed down you just gets larger rear. Now the biggest problem is that you already have a 3/4 jackshaft. The 35 chain doesn’t come in a ten tooth for that size. But in a 40 you can get a 9t. So you will most likely be running 40 chain. With that a 60t rear will yield a 6.6:1. Or if you can find a 72t that will get you to a 8:1

I think I'm going to aim for a 9t, 60T and #40 chain combo with the gear ratio of 6.6, I don't have much hilly terrain around here. Thank you very much for this information.

For the rear any golf cart wheels will do. If you already have the 22x11x8 just get your basic 8x7 wheels. 4/4 bolt pattern. I use these when I can’t find any local for cheap.

For the front I use these with a 4/4 wheel hub

Or if your going front brakes with this kit
http://www.buggydepot.com/product/261/front-brakes-retrofit-kit-for-yerf-dog-gx150.html

You will need 4x110 wheels.

opt for the 420 chain, worth the extra money. Also , I’m rocking 7.6:1 gearing and it’s overkill in the torque department with the 420’s , even at 500lbs+

so 6.6 gearing with the 420 should be good? I'm 240 and my daughter is maybe 50lbs

Golf cart wheels are 4 on 4. But people forget that some Polaris and Honda atv rear wheels are also the 4 on 4 bolt pattern. And the older jr. Dragster rears are that bolt pattern also. As I’m getting ready to buy wheels for mine also. And the golf cart I built with the 44” wide flexpruf axle utilizes the same hubs also.

I highly recommend you putting a third pillow block bearing in the middle somewhere. As from my experience with my golf cart build it already stressed the axle to bend a little in the middle.

I already have an extra 1" bore bearing for the middle

Got back from vacation and cranked away all day on the swing arm while I'm waiting on parts from BDX and Gopowersports. Made some pretty good progress and am happy with the results so far. Can't wait to finish this one up because I think my next buggy is going to have a motorcycle engine. 250 ninja or a GS500. Having a blast fabricating this stuff

Got the swing arm 90% completed. Got new bearings from Gopowersports and 2 pillow bearings for supporting the middle of the axle under the engine. New brake master cylinder supply line are ready to install. New wheels and tires are arriving today. The Rears are only temporary because I'm going to a larger size, I got 18x9.5x8's rears and fronts of 19x8x7 new setup will be 22x10x10 and 19x8x7. Old new fronts will go on my daughters Kart. Which I'm still trying to upgrade to another spiderbox or hammerhead 150. really not a fan of the 3002 model.

I also posted up a weld picture because... Why not. I paid $78 for this welder from Harbor freight and for a complete welding noob I think I'm doing pretty dam good. Although Before my construction accident I welded plastic pipe so I'm not a complete noob.

The front end will be a hair taller because I got my tires also and premeasured it all. I got the same size as you 22 for rear and 19 for the front.

No progress reports so far. Weather has been absolute crap 3 Nor Easters in 12 days with another one lined up next week. But Travis at BuggyDepot posted a beauty shot of the final product on the heavy duty front end I ordered and its glorious. Definitely going to have to go to a much larger rear tire.
