FINALLY starting on my FIRST go kart

So, got my engine, rough sketch and dimensions of how it's going to be
Waiting... Sucks...
So just from (possibly) the rear to just at the peddles is about 5' 6" and about 3' 2" wide. Do I need to extend it at the peddles for tire and steering linkage? Any criticism or advice is GREATLY appreciated.

It's best to extend the frame a little bit longer behind the peddles so they don't get in the way of the steering machanism.

What plan do you have in mind? Off road? On road? Spring loaded? etc? What speeds are you planning to get? 1 or 2 seater?

Sorry bout that...
2 seater, on road, no suspension on this one. live/solid axle, would hope for 20+ mph
Do need a bit of ground clearance so prolly 13-18" tires though.

I don't have the exact measurements handy, but you can probably wing it from there....or I can get you some measurements later.

It's actually a two-seater. I guess I was just trying to give you a hand with the basic design of the frame.
Your chalk design is just two boxes. The red one pictured is a production unit that you could pull some design and support cues from.

hey TXST, there's a proper way for posting pics on here. the pics you posted are small, and when clicked on they direct you to a different site, and they're STILL small. lol. that's a no-no.

first start with LARGE images stored on your computer (around 1000x750 resolution should be good). when composing or editing a message, simply click on "go advanced", then "manage attachements", then click "browse to upload pictures from my computer". upload them, then submit! that way you end up with nice looking thumbnails, and when they're clicked on they open up into nice full size images - WITHOUT being redirected to another website.

it's a 2-seater, look at it from the front. are you looking to build an adult-size 2 seater? then you'll want an 11hp or bigger motor, along with a comet 40 clutch. or do it the way i do it and use a 56hp snowmobile motor!

Gotcha! I was told to make them clickable thumbnails, but I was figuring that meant through my PB account. It seems attaching them through this site would take up even more space, but I will be happy to do it that way.

Basing it off this site here (diygokarts) just something simple for now. Kinda hard to draw a complete go kart with chalk(I'm not very artistic anyways.) I guess I should've said that to begin with, sorry. But I wast told by landuse to start with a chalk sketch, and I did see? Lol

I would just take some graph paper and atleast try to visualize what you wanna do. It always helps me to get it down onto paper. It dosent need to be perfect, just a concept.

honestly, if you're clueless (which it's better to admit it now, rather than after. lol), find a couple of karts on craigslist and go check them out. bring a tape measure, sit in them, see how everything is laid out. that way you know what you're doing, you know how big to make it, and you know how it all comes together. don't cheap out by using a centrifugal clutch - it'll suck majorly compared to a torque converter! unless you weigh like 60 lbs, and your kart is light as a feather. lol.

It is not the space that we are worried about, it is the visual look of the posts. When you have huge pics within your post that are linked from photobucket (or anywhere else), it is quite annoying to have to scroll around to see the pic. Instead of pasting your PB link straight into your post (which will give you large pics in the post), click Advanced, then Manage Attachments. You then past your PB URL's into the spaces provided that say Upload from URL.

This way saves your images to our server here, and besides having a visually pleasing post, if you ever decide to close your PB account, we will still have the images in the post for everyone to view for future members.

Got a quote back on some steel(1"x1"sq 14ga), can only get 24' lengths and for 3 @ 72' is $130. Seem a lil steep or about right?
