finally makin that fireplace grate I've always wanted

the little 1/2" hot rolled grate that was in the fireplace when I bought the house back in 2009 is now a sad little thing, I burn a lot, like a lot a lot for a guy living in Phoenix and I've called myself "wood rich" on occasion but you guys know that's due to my relentless quest for firewood in the almost unbearable summer heat while others casually discard wood without the foresight of winter days

so I finally bought 20' of 3/4" square stock and some aggressive decorative caps, I'm still looking at inspiration onlines and will hear your suggestions

it will be roughly 2' wide, no bends, all welds

Cool. I just did this last year, with mine. I had some old window bars, we used for tomato trellis. It is only 1/2 bars so I was able to bend the legs and some were twisted stock so it came out kinda decorative. Definetly a fun, easy, useful project. I will see if I can get a photo.

Here are the pics. It is not fancy and being 1/2 it will not last as long as the old one, but the old one was completely shot.

nice, I'm thinking mainly 90 degree angles for the runners and stringers but obviously some outward angle for the uprights
