Recently purchased a Runmaster 250 from a buddy. He got it from another guy a few years back who said engine isn't original. It runs just fine but there is an ignition issue which brings me to first question.
To get it started, he was jumping the starter directly. The wire harness looks like it has been taped up and it’s hard for me without tearing into it to see if anything is fried. Reason I haven’t yet is the key has to be on for it to run and actually kills the engine when you turn it off, just won’t turn over the starter (doesn’t even click). So my son could get a few turns on it, I ran two wires off the battery and got it going for him then took them off. I bought a battery isolation switch similar to those used in drag cars etc but having trouble with how to wire it. I know straight from battery to switch to starter but when we jump it, I literally have to ground it on one of the starter mounting bolts. Has anyone done something similar? If so do I ground it to both starter and battery with hot wires going to each as well or should I just ground it on battery ground? I don’t want to fry anything trying to do this as I just bought the battery and switch.
Second question is the tires seem low when turning etc but sidewall says do not operate above 7 psi. Does that sound right?
Third question is it does look like the Honda GY6 engine but where do I find out for sure? I can’t find any identification on it. Having an issue with reverse not always engaging and think I know the issue but want to be able to research it to be sure (cable is attached and tension spring is wrapped around a support arm and think it is just stretched out too much).
Any help would be appreciated.
