Hello all.

First I want everyone to know I am new to the small motor world (but not big engines) of Go-Karts and that I have tried Google and the search function of the forums to try and find my answers. With that being said, I have a B&S fun power 5hp Motor that I have almost completely torn down to rebuild and mill out. My problem is that I cannot get the exhaust valve to come out. It is getting stuck on the top of the spring housing. Is there some sort of trick I need to do to get it out? I also cannot find the model number for my engine so that I can get new gaskets and piston rings (if I need them). Please any help would be great thanks in advance.

What about replacement Gaskets? I have looked around on a few websites but I have not been able to find anyhting for this motor. I do not know if that is due to not knowing what motor I have or because it is not made any more.

you found the model there^

the first numbers you said have something to do with emissions probably.

the breaks in the fins are no big deal.

Well while cleaning up the head I found that it is cracked. Now I have to decide what I am going to do. Should I replace it with a new billit head or just find a used one (make my "fire port") and use that. I am not going to be doing any racing or anyhting too crazy with my OLD as DIRT kart. I want it to go fast and just have fun on it. If I replace the head, what one do i get? I looked at the ARC website and they all say b&g flathead and I am not sure if mine is a flathead or not. Also is it worth it to get a 60 dollar replacement head if the rest of the motor is stock?

By cracked head, if you mean that spot by the spark plug to which you're pointing with a screwdriver, make sure nothing else shows cracking and don't worry about those fins. They are just for added heat dispersion and if that little bit missing is all, then it isn't an issue.

if you look at this picture you can see the crack in the bottom center of the picture. It is a little blurry but even still you can see it. it is right where the bolt goes for the head.

ahhh thats fine
thats only in the cooling part of the head
now if it was in the combustion chamber, or gasket surface
then you would have an issue

im sure you can run that for some time untill the crack gets to a point where it is bad

Sweet less money that I have to spend. Now if I mill the head down (to remove the need to use a gasket), will it become a factor then? Again I am still using my limited knowledge of these engines, I am used to bigger V-8 engines so it is just a bit diffrent.
