When I purchased my go kart I was given a upgraded exhaust.
After seeing the exhaust port size on the clone V the header size on the "upgraded" exhaust I think it is a step back wards.
I purchased some 3/4 pipe to build a new header.
The question is how long do I have to make it to keep it quite but still have good flow?

Thanks
Neil

The exhaust is not a step backwards. Have you seen stock exhausts?

I had a similar exhaust and didn't like the stepped reduction.

I added some material with my welder and then ground it to a taper.
Not sure if it did anything except make me feel better.

Lets see if I can find a pic.
Welded, Ground, Gasket Matched.

Nothing shorter than 5 or 6 inches.
Add a conduit/ pipe Coupler and keep the muffler in the picture if you want the sound muffled.

Thanks Bob58o.
It could be just the photo but your hole looks bigger than mine. Wow that sounds bad lol.
The header hole of mine is a bit over 1/2".

That muffler end fits inside the 3/4 pipe I got so it won't be to hard to weld them together.
I might run it baffle free forva while to see how noisy it is.

Thanks
Neil

It's a bit louder. But it's a good kind of loud.
After I put that pipe on I just butted some more pipe to the end to see how much tone change there was. The longer the pipe the deeper the tone. I guess those torque tube with the several coils would sound pretty deep. I just made a random length.

If you look in my build thread " tale of two Dingos" there are a couple of vids I posted. One is a longer vid of me doing a few laps. I had the stock exhaust on then. I made a short vid a few post later with the short pipe.
It won't be a great comparison but you should be able to get an idea.

Yeah go with 1" but be careful because the welds can interfere with the nuts that hold it to the engine.. 6" is the minimum length usually; anything longer makes it deeper (resonates more) and a little quieter since the gases have time to expand and slow down before deafening your neighbors :D

Good advice. I used 1" ID pipe and I had to Grind a little spot for the nuts and they still fight me a little.

Thanks guys.
I already have some 3/4 pipe so I'll be using that. I'm not much of a welder so it probably wise I stick with the smaller diameter lol.

Thanks
Neil
