Basically, how much of an exhaust do you need to avoid burning the valve?

Reason I ask is because I have an old honda gxv390 mounted on a riding mower it was never designed for, and the muffler does not fit, and the stock manifold will only fit if i cut the flange off the end. Will the few inches or cm i have as an exhaust be enough to protect the valve? Has a 90 degree bend in it at least. Dont care about noise, want it loud anyway.

So your plan is to cut the muffler off the stock exhaust.
AND just use the flange and the short bent tube that connects the flange to the muffler?f

No matter how you answer, my answer is still I don't know.

"It'll be fine"

"For testing Purposes only!!!"

Try to keep the cold air out (stuff a rag in the tube when you shut it down).
It will keep the valve from cooling too rapidly.

jk, I really don't know.

Some of these people say it is fine, AND it is on the internet so it must be true!!!

Can I see a video of the 6" flames that shoot out?

I heard that is only an issue with 2 strokes. Last years Build off winner ran like a 2 or 3 inch pipe on his 212 predator.

5" is my limit on anything. I have seen anything shorter burn valves up.
