I need to make an exhaust gasket for one of those little 49cc two stroke motors on those little go karts I bought. What is a good material to use? I was looking for something copper but couldnt find anything. I have a small roll of gasket material, its a thick gray heavy paper type, not cork. Will that work? How about some thin steel flashing material?

you dont NEED an exhaust gasket, but i do remember bluethunder using a waffle box to make the gasket, he said it did fine

I may not need one but I would like one to keep the mess minimal. If he used a waffle box I should be able to use my gasket material. Thanks.

I have homemade copper gasket made out of some copper flashing I found, works great with my homemade exhaust pipe.

Maniseal or the like will work fine. Goes on as a paste, run the engine to let it get hot then it will set.

We use it for pretty much everything.
