hang on..is it possible to secure the flange with a nut on the stud which is stuck in the block?

you could also put a couple nuts on the thread(or even weld one on) and try to wind it out

altho then it may break again and you will have even more problems haha

I think you should try things in order of least to most damaging. Such as freeze and penetrating oil first, then blah blah blah.

Could you put two nuts on, and back the one closest to the block out to the other one? Then it shouldnt move.

so what was the solution?

i have to remove 3 snapped exhaust bolts and also a snapped headbolt. (3 diff engines)

never again will i buy engines which have been stored outside. All the engines are fine(alloy) its just the rusty steel bolts that are the problem

i had a 8hp briggs, and ONE headbolt, the last one, was totally corroded. all the others looked brand new.

and it snapped. block is screwed and engine was parted out. it will never run again...

well i think i will drill mine out then tap new threads if they are no good

should work/ i will drill wonky and make the situation worse

edit: once i managed to drill so perfectly that once i was through the bolt i could unscrew what was left with a screw driver.

but like 20 other times i've drilled on an angle and ruined everything haha.

Tried vice grips as tight as they go... It was tough to squese that but i got
It, and all it did was slip and peel back some of the metal off the bolt......

Maybe. Just maybe i was using the wrond thread bolt. Im not sure.

yeh i can screw an exhaust into the tecumseh so i wont bother trying to fix that.

i snapped a muffler bolt on a 5hp briggs yesterday(bolt was 100% rust, the thing has been outside for a few years)

and i have a qauntum 60 briggs(6hp?) which i snapped a head bolt on. Have no idea why that broke

i want to fix the head bolt. Dont think i will bother trying to fix the briggs muffler bolt. Will just run one bolt and block off the extra hole in muffler. Should be fine

so i tried welding a nut to it, it just broke off.....

i welded a blob all over the stud and it melted partially to the side..... so i put a vice grip on that, and IT TURNED FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAHH!!!

now i just have to get the threaded part out. i NEED STAINLESS BOLTS!!!
