engine won't stay running, only when I give it gas.

possibly carb is not supply enough gas? or spark plug is bad?
im ordering a new spark plug but heres some pictures of the carb (I took it apart). I also messed with the idle screw which was beginning of the engine to stop working correctly.


looks like the carb gasket on the tank is old and the bowl in the tank is dirty. not sure what the 4th picture is but whatever it is it looks fine.
The filter looks a little dirty but should be fine right?

to clean it do I just spray the whole thing with carb cleaner?

Clean out the carb, also check your idle screw, it could not be giving it enough air at idle rpm.

Photo #4 is your fuel pump. It's a spring with a "ring" protector on the end as you see it. I don't see the fuel pump diaphragm (a thin membrane that covers the entire pump surface) but chances are it is toast and/or stiff, possibly punctured. Buy a new one and reinstall.

All new gaskets are probably called for, in photos #1 and #2.

Photo #7 is showing you the spiral. A device in some B&S carbs that helps mix the fuel and air.

oh the diaphragm is definitely there. I just didn't take a picture of it cause it looked really good.

1&2 I just used some gasket maker.

the engine started up after this post with some started fluid, ran for a bit, started doing some adjustment to the idle screw.. and started making some progress....
..but then the recoil stopped working.. the engine isn't seized and the recoil is fine... but for some reason its not "locking on" (the recoil just pulls freely and doesn't pull the crank shaft at all)

I think your right, if you read my reply the other reply... I started adjusting the idle screw and it was making progress..

as for cleaning the carb I didn't know what to clean so just put it back on without cleaning...as you ca see its an old engine

new motor. I really prefer my raptor compared to the selection I can afford which is basically just the predator lol...
