Hello all!! New to the forum today. A little background, I've been racing 2 stroke go karts since I was 12 and retired in my late 20's. My 8 year old son is just getting into the sport and we LOVE it! although it is EXTREMELY expensive compared to when I was doing it (and wasn't paying for it!).

I am pretty good with a things "engine" both 2 and 4 stroke but had a project dropped in my lap today that I need some advice on. I am trading some detail work on my boat with a guy at work for a "rebuild" of his yard kart. basically he wants me to tear it down, give him the frame to have powder coated and put everything back on with mostly new parts. The difficult part is he wants a new "faster or more powerful motor" on it and I have NO idea where to look to buy and to make sure I am getting a straight bolt on replacement with no mods necessary or very minimal.

Kart:

Carter model number 2766-3015

Engine (current):

Tecumseh 6.0HP Power Sport model #OHH60 Family WTPXS.1951AB
Displacement 195. DOM 8336

motor is old but with a carb and tank cleaning and some TLC it would run fine. He just wants bigger and badder! (don't we all)

Heres some pics to help.

Basically want to know if I can buy a direct fit replacement with more HP without rewiring and rerunning everything.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

John.

Without the hassle of major reworks, the largest & best alternative is a HF 212cc Predator; performance parts are also relatively inexpensive...

Thanks for the reply OzFab! I told him about that one which I think would work just fine and he inquired about the 420cc 13HP Predator but I believe its a 1" shaft and would require mods and more parts? Correct?

May run into fitment issues with the 420 being a longer engine. It would need a larger engine mount, 40 series Comet torque converter.

Thanks Kartorbust! I got the entire kart broken down today, everything came off super easy surprisingly enough. I went to HF and looked at the 212 predator which looks like it will fit nicely with minimum hassle (maybe the throttle linkage) but he has decided to just buy some upgrades with that motor which works for me! Now to the torque converter which should be the 40 series Comet? Thanks again for the help!

Your current torque converter will bolt right to the Predator. Search this forum for torque converter cleaning tips. The "40 Series" is for engines with more HP. Remember, if you run the same gearing with a 420 predator or a 3 HP brigs, top speed will be the same. If you want more speed, you will need to remove the governor and possibly change the gearing.
