Good idea ^

Also have you already tried adjusting your carburetors idle speed and (if equiped) mixture adjustment screws? Also make sure the throttle cables adjustment isn't somehow causing this.

If that didnt help take your air cleaner off and observe the butterfly inside the carb. As you work your throttle you should be able to easly see this round disk fully opening (and more importantly for you right now) fully closing. This butterfly is supposed to restrict almost all air from entering the carb at idle. (the fuel is then drawn through the carb to match the air flow)

If the carbs butterfly trully seems to be fully closing, your carb or intake manifold may have a severe vacuum leak somewhere allowing air to enter the engine and causing your fast idle. (make sure your carb bolts havent just come loose)

I did this to my 8hp. i rebuilt the carb reinstalled it and just kept revving and revving, what i did was somehow made the butterfly get stuck open. Also could be your governor is out of adjustment
