Year beneath a light u can't check the timing as there's no external marks

Just open the side cover
The side that has the pto shaft

Then wind the engine round till the mark in the crank gear ag kind with the mark in the cam gear

They were aligned well.

I gave the coil and flywheel magnet a light sand to get rid of some surface dustrust. Reset the valve lashing and it's much better now.

Was that just due to the magnets not getting good contact?

Not too sure about that, but probably didn't help with them being dusty

My bad on that last post, I was meant to say rust.

After cleaning the rust I set the air gap between the coil and flywheel as well.

Resetting the gab might me the key here
