Hey,

Basically I want to put this on a 2 seater go kart and can pull me 6'1 240 pounds, and maybe a child to teen size at a decent speed like 40-45 mph, I wont be doing alot of off roading but I would like it to be able to pull a hill, ive been reading up and I was thinking like a 10+ hp motor, and I herd Lawn mower engines aint that great for Higher speeds, I got around 300 to 500 to invest in a engine, any help would be greatly apperciated, and thanks.

Hop down your hf ASAP!!! some stores still have the old line "greyhound" motors, which can be had in a 2.5hp,6.5hp,11hp and 13hp model. They were all reduced to about 1/2 price and there are few about. Check ebay also. They also look better than the new predator crap and parts are easier to come by because they were a honda clone. You can use a tav2 on the 6.5 and 40 series on the 11 and 13.

Don't be so quick here. No one here has tested these yet and seem shaky. Also, just cause it's big doesn't mean it'll yield speed. It's still governed at 3600RPM but has more torque and will get to top speed quicker than a smaller engine. To get those speeds with that weight, I would suggest a dirtbike/quad style engine about 125cc or so. This revs much higher and has an internal gearbox. With your budget, you should be able to score one with ease. Look on your local Craigslist. Look at what I just found, as an example.

redsox they just dont look quality, when you looked at a clone you think well its chineasse but its looks good/well built when you look at a predator which ive tested 2 well at a local harbor freight, they were ****ty. chokes hard to push can barley move the throttle arm and im telling you it was nasty, when you see a bike with a clone your like thats a nice bike, when you see it with a predator your like what kind of **** is that? and honda/clone bolt on mods are no good no more with those engines

ive tested 2 well at a local harbor freight,

How do you test engines "well" in a store?
I won't question that they look cheesy or the fact that the controls don't appear user-friendly. But to say you tested them? I think not.

To the OP- with your budget, I'll second Redsox's suggestion.

me and the manager took 2 with us outside the store and i put oil and gas in them , and ran them, not exactley a full test, but a test as in in there at all like the greyhound there not, sticky choke levers, throttle arms are really tight, and they may seem like a greyhound, but they dont come close

I wouldn't concern myself much with the throttle arm. Like all "stationary" engines, loosening it up is a simple matter of twisting a nut a few degrees. And let's face it- you're going to slack it right off in a go kart application anyway, yes?

Again- might look and feel cheesy, but best to reserve judgement until many people have clocked many hours on these things and actually have useful information to report.

What I'd really like to see is a member or two bite the bullet and play guinea pig for us- score a predator, install it on a kart, subject it to the normal rigors of karting, and report their findings over the short and long terms.

Does anyone know what these Predators are even based off of? I would like to see a detailed analysis of how the actual components and the block cast quality and what not compare to a Greyhound.

The casting quality is BETTER than the Greyhound engines.. and the block can accept a bigger piston which makes it more suitable for racing. They are still based off of the Honda gx200 but they are starting to vary things like the head design, carb etc.. to suit the emissions and power ratings.
